Areas of Expertise

Clinical Issues

For more than 7 years, I have worked as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor to diagnose and treat a wide range of mental and emotional disorders. My therapeutic expertise includes all of the following client challenges:

Trauma disorders, depression and other mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, personality disorders, schizophrenia, dissociative identity disorder, eating disorders, self-harm and suicidality, ADHD, autism, gender dysphoria, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, and more.

Over the years, I have identified that my greatest strength as a therapist lies in the transformative work of helping people heal their core beliefs about themselves. Unhelpful core beliefs are the foundation of many mental and emotional problems, especially for the following client populations that I have come to specialize in working with:

  • People who have experienced trauma of all forms

  • People with Borderline Personality Disorder

  • Neurodivergent individuals, especially those diagnosed or identified as adults, or those that are questioning if they may be neurodivergent

  • People within the LGBTQIA+ community

Evidence-based Treatments

My years of experience using evidence-based treatments has given me a toolkit of a variety of interventions. This allows me to adapt my treatment to the unique needs and personalities of each client. Though I use interventions from a range of therapeutic approaches, I most often use the following treatments as they have been especially effective with all of my clients:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: This approach uses eye movements and other forms of bilateral stimulation to facilitate our body’s natural way of processing emotional information. It is a powerful therapeutic technique that rapidly facilitates the reprocessing of distressing memories and negative core beliefs. It has been found to decrease the length of time required in treatment to reduce emotional suffering and increase feelings of wellness and resilience.

  • Internal Family Systems Therapy: IFS provides a useful framework for exploring our psyche to facilitate transformative change by healing our relationship with ourselves. By conceptualizing the varying aspects of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors as different parts of us, we are able to better understand ourselves, sit with conflicting aspects of self, and foster self-compassion. IFS provides permanent healing of trauma, negative core beliefs, and patterns of dysfunctional behavior.

My Approach

My Perspective on Counseling

Therapy often has a daunting reputation, with people fearing judgment and pressure to rigidly change themselves. However, aligning with our bodies' innate ability to heal psychological distress naturally creates change allowing therapy to be a compassionate experience. The thoughts, feelings, and actions we tend to dislike and shame ourselves for typically stem from an attempt to cope with the painful beliefs we hold about ourselves. Instead of battling these coping strategies, approaching these parts of ourselves with compassion guides us to understand what they are trying to reveal about their emotional wounds. By healing these wounds, we rediscover the inherent worth we all hold which dissolves the negative beliefs with ease, and naturally transforms our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Though it may still be uncomfortable at times, using this natural approach to healing mental health issues results in rapid, permanent, and profound change without any added pain

My Approach to Counseling

The inherent worth held within each of us is the most powerful treatment for emotional wounds. Therefore, I always hold my clients’ individual value at the center of everything I do. My role is to help you identify and clear anything blocking you from connecting with your innate value. In this process, I draw from various evidence-based treatments, with a primary focus on those aligned with natural strategies for healing.

Internal Family Systems therapy centers the role of our inherent worth while providing a perfect framework for walking through the healing process and deepening our understanding of ourselves. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing utilizes bilateral stimulation to trigger a physical response that facilitates psychological healing by soothing the nervous system and clearing barriers to healing. Using EMDR to foster the process of IFS provides rapid relief by directly guiding us to the beliefs and wounds blocking our access to our self-worth. I emphasize both of these approaches because they lead to permanent healing and profound change.
